Maine has seen a steady rise in fatal overdoses, and that has only intensified in recent years, according to data from the Margaret Chase Smith Policy Institute at the University of Maine. In 2000, there were 60 deaths attributed to overdose. In 2010, that number was 167. In 2020, it was 504 and in 2022, it was 723.
