Photo of Margaret Chase SmithThe Margaret Chase Smith Library  is recognized as one of the premier Congressional libraries in the U.S. Housed in the former home of Senator Margaret Chase Smith in Skowhegan, Maine, it serves as an archive, museum, educational center, and a congressional research library open to qualified scholars. The MCS Library is owned by the Margaret Chase Smith Foundation and administered through UMaine by the Margaret Chase Smith Policy Center.

The library houses the political papers, documents, honors, photographs, and memorabilia stemming from the thirty-two year congressional career of former United States Senator Margaret Chase Smith. Primary sources include correspondence between Senator Smith and leading government officials, constituent correspondence and government reports; over 500 bound scrapbooks that thoroughly document her career as recorded in newspaper accounts and periodical literature; 43 bound volumes of Senator Smith’s speeches, press releases, and general statements; over 5400 historical photographs of state, national, and world leaders; and over 400 audio and video recordings of interviews, debates and speeches.
