Call for Submissions for Maine Policy Review’s Bicentennial Issue

This special issue of Maine Policy Review will celebrate the state’s rich 200-year history. Articles will highlight policy successes and challenges by reflecting on the past and present and commenting on the future. We welcome essays that explore Maine’s political history and notable leaders; indigenous peoples; natural resources (forest, agricultural, marine, mineral, and tourism); economy, workforce, technology, and infrastructure; health and wellbeing of Maine people; demography and immigration; ties between Maine and Canada.

The typical submission would be expected to

  • place the history of the topic within a policy framework
  • provide background and a short literature review
  • describe policy implications for the present and future as well as the past
  • consider how articles might be useful to Maine policymakers over time

For this special issue, we will consider three lengths of papers:

  • short pieces of between 500 and 1000 words (not including references, endnotes, and bios)
  • medium-length pieces of between 1000 and 2500 words (not including references, endnotes, and bios)
  • full-length articles of no more than 5000 words (not including references, endnotes, and bios)

Deadlines: The deadline for proposals is November 18, 2019. Proposals should provide abstracts of no more than 500 words, touching on the major points to be made. In addition to the abstract, please include a working title of the article, your name and contact information, and a brief statement of your background (education and/or work experience).
