Amy Blackstone
Professor, Margaret Chase Smith Policy Center; Department of Sociology, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences
Amy Blackstone joined the University of Maine’s Sociology Department in 2003 and the Margaret Chase Smith Policy Center in 2017. Her research includes studies of women’s civic engagement, workplace climate and harassment, and the childfree choice. Dr. Blackstone has provided expert consultation on sexual harassment cases and serves on a variety of local boards and committees focused on cultural development, economic development, and health access. Nationally, Dr. Blackstone has provided consultation for organizations and events seeking to provide resources for adults without children and her research has been featured in numerous local and national media outlets, from public radio to the Katie Show. She is a regular contributor on Huffington Post. Dr. Blackstone’s work has been supported by the National Science Foundation and the National Council on Family Relations. Her current teaching and research projects focus on women’s leadership and the sociology of food.
