Meet one of our Maine government summer interns

Through the Maine Government Summer Internship Program, Karoline Bass has a summer internship with the Division of Technical Services for the Maine Department of Environmental Protection (DEP). The division includes scientists, geologists, engineers, and data managers who focus on petroleum-contaminated sites. The Department is part of one of the four bureaus that compose the Maine DEP. Karoline says, “My internship has provided opportunities to shadow other divisions and experience how different aspects of DEP operate to protect and restore Maine’s natural resources.  As an environmental studies major, the internship gives me a glimpse into environmental careers within the state. I have been lucky to establish personal connections, gain field experience and technical writing skills. I found that keeping a daily log helped me retain the information and reflect. I encourage other interns to frequently reflect and set personal goals to ensure they get the most out of their experience. The internship is going by fast, and I am happy to be a part of it!”
