Emily Illingworth — NEW Leadership Gave Me Hope that We Can Empower One Another to Achieve Better Outcomes
Emily Illingworth a senior biochemistry major at the University of Mane discusses how Maine NEW Leadership helped her succeed. The programming she participated in showed her how many opportunities exist for women scientists to influence public policy. Being surrounded by other women who were goal oriented and driven to succeed in their respective fields made it easy for Illingworth to share her true thoughts and opinions putting her at ease despise her initial nervousness. In networking sessions, she learned the importance of clear communication for scientists to be able to communicate thier research to individuals who are non-experts. Further, the meaningful—and often times difficult—discussions that took place at NEW Leadership gave her hope and confidence of the ability of women to work together collaboratively to empower one another and ensure the best outcomes for the future.
