Abby Bennett — NEW Leadership Highlights Diversity of Experiences and Backgrounds within the State of Maine
Abby Bennett a third year financial economics major at the University of Maine discusses her experiences in the 2016 NEW Leadership program. Through networking receptions, tours of the State House and presentations by women in power Bennett and her peers were inspired. Specifically, the keynote address delivered by Oklahoma State Representative Cyndi Munson encouraged these students to seek positions of prominence and have confidence in their ability to hold positions of power and be successful. For Bennett, the most enriching portion of NEW Leadership was interacting with young women from different socioeconomic, racial, and religious backgrounds. Learning about the personal stories of her peers, Bennett discovered the variety of experiences and lifestyles that exist in the state of Maine which allows her to better empathize with others and expands her view of the world.
