Women of Power Reception for Maine NEW Leadership a Success

The 2nd annual Women of Power Reception to benefit Maine NEW Leadership was held in Augusta on February 12. More than 100 guests were welcomed to the Senator Inn and Spa to celebrate Maine women leaders and their accomplishments, with proceeds going to benefit Maine NEW Leadership, an annual undergraduate student leadership training program held each summer at no cost to participants.

The Margaret Chase Smith Policy Center was delighted to welcome a number of special guests, including Governor Janet Mills and University of Maine president Joan Ferrini-Mundy. The Center was also excited to welcome an impressive group of lawmakers, sponsors, and guests for an evening of networking, food, and inspiration.

The reception was co-hosted by a number of Maine’s distinguished female lawmakers and was graciously photographed by Jeff Kirlin of The Thing of the Moment. Our sponsors’ generous contributions will assist with ensuring that the NEW Leadership program will remain free for every attendee.

The program concluded with Gov. Mills’ receipt of the first Minerva award, given to a Maine woman leader who exemplifies the values of the NEWL program: leadership for the betterment of our state, a commitment to civil dialogue, and a passion for civic engagement. The award was beautifully crafted by Hallowell Clay Works and acknowledged Gov. Mills leadership as Maine’s first female governor.
