Prior to being elected president in January 2009, Jones served as the vice president of programing at the foundation where she helped create the Maine Compact for Higher Education and ENCorps, a volunteer leader program for civic-minded baby boomers.
Before joining the foundation, Jones was director of education and training for the Maine Health Care Association. She has also worked for the Maine Development Foundation where she led communication, strategic planning, programmatic and fund development initiatives. She was a member of the team that created Leadership Maine, the Maine Coalition for Excellence in Education, and the Policy Leaders Academy.
Jones has worked as senior fundraising staff for a failed but exciting gubernatorial primary campaign, served as a member of former Governor Angus King’s transition team, and as staff to the Maine legislature’s committee on public utilities.
Dedicated to public service, she was a VISTA Volunteer in Santa Fe, New Mexico, a Literacy Volunteer and has served on a local school board, the board of directors of a local United Way, and the Maine Women’s Fund.
In 2009 she was the recipient of the Deborah Morton award. She is a graduate of Colby Sawyer College in New London, NH, the University of Maine at Augusta, and has completed post-graduate work at the University of Maine.
Meredith’s family roots go back more than 200 years in Washington County, Maine. She is the mother and grandmother of two and wife of one.
As the leader of one of Maine’s largest foundations, she has been well served by always treating others the way she would want to be treated; being a good listener; and finding humor where it’s least expected.
